As a Republican nothing scares me more than the rapid rise of Donald Trump.

For months and months the Donald Trump campaign has led in almost every GOP poll, and I fear what this means for the future of America. Trump’s ability to tap into the far right vein of the GOP is producing frightening results.

There have been several instances where his supporters have resembled the brown shirts of Mussolini. Recently several of his supporters assaulted a Black Lives Matter (BLM) activist at one of his rallies.

A similar event happened when they forcibly dragged out an immigration activist while his supporters chanted, “USA!” emphatically.

Trump has encouraged these actions even stating that the BLM activists deserved to be “roughed up”. His campaign launched with him referring to Mexican immigrants as, “rapists” amongst other things.

While this would have killed a traditional politician in any other campaign, his continued use of racist rhetoric such as this only galvanizes his supporters.

“Trump in this campaign has gone after African-

Americans, immigrants, Latinos, Asians, women, Muslims and now the disabled,” said Dana Milbank in a recent Washington Post article entitled “Donald Trump is a bigot and a racist”.

Beginning with the issue of immigrants and deporting millions upon millions of people, Trump has now turned his focus on Muslim Americans with words ringing similar to Hitler in Nazi Germany.

According to NBC News, Trump said he would “certainly implement” a national database on Muslims. Not stopping there, he also recently spoke of a ban of all Muslims to America. On his own website, Donaldjtrump.com, Trump “[calls] for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.”

As seen in the recent media this plan has truly back fired with multiple influential members of the GOP denouncing his plan. Speaker of the House Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) denounced Trump’s plan.

“This is not conservatism, and this is not what this party stands for,” said Ryan.

Fellow GOP nominee Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) critisizes Trump perfectly.

“Donald Trump took xenophobia and religious bigotry to a new level,” said Graham.

While I’m still registered as a member of the GOP, if we can’t rid ourselves of the stain of Trump I will be forced to abandon ship and hope others will follow.
