Are you new to Instagram or bored with your account? Do you look at other people’s post with envy? Are you frustrated wondering why you can’t get more than 30 likes on your pictures? If your answer to any of these questions was yes then this is the story for you. These are my five tips to help you turn your Instagram account into one that makes everyone else jealous of you.

  1. Timing

As the saying goes, “there’s a time a place for everything”. This rule applies to social media for sure. Each social media apparatus has a different time for when it is most appropriate to post in order to get the most views or likes. For Instagram the best time to post a picture and have the most amount of people to see it is anytime between 5-9 p.m. At this time most everyone will be out of classes and off work. Don’t expect to see many likes on a picture posted at six in the morning or midnight.

  1. Filters

A good filter can turn an ugly picture into a masterpiece. Knowing which filter to use is very import when it comes to posting a picture. You must decide what kind of mood you want to set for your picture. Do you want a dark mysterious New York type? Or maybe a sweet Florida summer?

But wait, where exactly can you find these types of filters? There are an enormous amount of filter apps for both apple and android. As an iPhone user, I recommend the “Airbrush” filter app. With this, you can not only use filters, but also edit your photos by covering acne, whitening your teeth, and smoothing blemishes.

  1. Content

Now the big question is… what do you post!? Everyone can choose what they want to post. Maybe you like to work out so you post videos of a different workout every day. Or you might love to travel, and want to post about your many adventures. Or maybe you’re like a majority of young Instagram users and you post pictures of you and your friends throughout life. Whatever you choose to post, make sure it reflects who you are as a person. But also think about who you are posting for. If you’re posting for your own enjoyment then feel free to post whatever you feel. But if you’re posting to attract the attention of others, you have to give them something worth seeing. Let’s be honest, no one wants to see pictures of your cat every day. Make it exciting, give the world a show. Anyone can be a star on Instagram.

  1. Captions

A caption can make or break any Instagram post. I know some of us aren’t the best writers, but we can all be original and come up with captions. A caption can explain what a picture cannot. With that being said, don’t go crazy. They came on Instagram to see pictures, not read a book. Captions are meant to accompany the picture, not take over.

  1. Followers

What is the point of posting a picture if no one is going to see it? This is where followers come into place. If you posts pictures or videos with content people actually want to see and have funny or insightful captions and use the other tips I provided, the followers will come on their own. If you’re still hurting in the follower count, try following some people yourself. If you do they’re more than likely to follow you back.
