Guidelines for Submitting Opinion Piece to The Talon

The Talon is currently accepting submissions for opinion pieces. Pieces written on any topic will be considered, so long as all guidelines and requirements are met. Anyone currently enrolled at TCC (including dual-enrollment students and single-class students) are eligible for submission.

How do I send a letter to the editor?

The Talon accepts submission by e-mail at Request for submission should submitter’s name and contact information, a brief description of the opinion piece and an attachment of the completed piece. Anonymous submissions or submissions written under pseudonyms will not be considered. Pieces will be published under the submitter’s first name and the first letter of their last name.

What are the guidelines for submissions?

Letters must be the submitter’s original work. Pieces previously published in print or online will not be considered (pieces written for writing or English classes are exempt from this guideline). Submissions must have a minimum of 200 words and not exceed 600 words. However, submissions of any length will be considered.

Are submissions edited?

Yes, submissions are edited for clarity and AP Style, fact-checked, and sometimes trimmed to fit the space available in the newspaper. However, the opinions expressed are always the writer’s own.
