The coronavirus pandemic has affected millions of people across the globe, including college students. Schools and colleges have shifted classes online for the rest of the semester, graduation and other school activities have been cancelled and students’ academic plans have been affected. Many Tallahassee Community College students returned home, some students stayed in town, but all of them are doing their best to fulfill their academic requirements to finish out the semester despite the societal upheaval.

It is difficult to see the silver lining in a pandemic that has killed thousands and contained most of the human population to their homes. However, I have chosen to view the virus as a chance for a fresh start not only for myself but for the planet as a whole.

With the hustle and bustle of daily life it is difficult to stop and appreciate the little things and take time for yourself. Growing up in Miami, a city that never sleeps, I was so accustomed to coming home for breaks and constantly being out of the house involved in numerous activities.

On this occasion, however, I found time to cut back and reorganize myself. I highly recommend making light of this situation and seeing it as an opportunity to make time for the things you have been missing.

Start the workouts you haven’t had time for or read that book you have been dying to open, reorganize your space or take on the projects around the house you never thought you would get to.

In no way am I discrediting the pain and suffering that is going on around the world. We need to be conscious of the situation we are in and take the proper steps to stop it. That being said, we all need to step up and make the most of it.

Even if we are separate, we are in this together!
