Cats and coffee make a pretty good pair. Cat Cafés have become increasingly popular all over the world after the concept was introduced in Taiwan in 1998. Now, even Tallahassee residents can enjoy cat cafés.

The Tally Cat Café offers its customers a fun atmosphere to play with cats while enjoying baked goods and coffee. All the cats come from the Leon County Humane Society and local kill shelters. The cats come vaccinated, microchipped and spayed and neutered. The café acts as a foster home for all the cats they bring in.

“Cat café’s have been popping up all around the country,” said one of the owners, Courtney Kendrick. “My business partners and I both wanted to combine owning a coffee shop and being a rescue, so we did.”

Since the Tally Cat Café opened four months ago, 98 cats have been adopted and given a permanent, loving home. For their 100th adoption, the café plans to host a special, week-long event.

“Right now, we have 16 cats available,” Kendrick said. “We try to keep the number of cats we have above 15 at all times.”

Tally Cat Café serves coffee provided by Lucky Goat and pastries from the local bakeries, Tasty Pastry, Vegan Vybz and Donut Kingdom. Customers can even get lattes with cat-themed latte art.

The Tally Cat Café is located at 2218 North Monroe Street next to the Chick-fil-a. Admission into the cat lounge is seven dollars.
