The coronavirus pandemic has affected millions of people across the globe, including college students. Schools and colleges have shifted classes online for the rest of the semester, graduation and other school activities have been cancelled and students’ academic plans have been affected. Many Tallahassee Community College students returned home, some students stayed in town, but all of them are doing their best to fulfill their academic requirements to finish out the semester despite the societal upheaval.

TCC student Thomas Driscoll has decided not to shave until the pandemic has passed.

The last few weeks of my life have been drastically altered due to the ravaging effects of COVID-19, AKA the coronavirus. My family begged me to come home, which is in Destin, so I could be with them.

Then, what felt like the end of the world started to set in.

The first noteworthy change that this crisis had on my daily life was the transition from face-to-face classes to online classes. To be clearer than clear, I do not like online classes.

For the first couple days, Canvas wasn’t loading in on my laptop, probably because of the mass influx of students constantly logged on.

However, nobody can blame the professors. I mean it has got to be no simple task to move someone’s entire set of lesson plans onto a virtual platform, not to mention doing so on a dime like they did.

Another ever so lovely change brought into my life through COVID-19 is my working schedule.

Since I’m back home for the rest of the year, I figured that I’d at least try and make some money. Hell no. Quite literally the day that I was scheduled to interview at a local bar, the city began ordering restaurants, bars, beaches and everything in between to close their doors and switch only to to-go orders.

With all that being so, my Spring Break, and potentially my summer at this point, have been reduced to me waking up early, knocking out all my schoolwork for the day, and then spending the remaining three quarters of my day pacing around the house and avoiding painful small talk with my family.
