The coronavirus pandemic has affected millions of people across the globe, including college students. Schools and colleges have shifted classes online for the rest of the semester, graduation and other school activities have been cancelled and students’ academic plans have been affected. Many Tallahassee Community College students returned home, some students stayed in town, but all of them are doing their best to fulfill their academic requirements to finish out the semester despite the societal upheaval.

To begin with, I find it very crazy how one day life can be so normal. You wake up, get dressed, attend class, go to work, come home to make dinner, finish homework, go to sleep so you can wake up and do it all again the next day.

Not so much these days.

I never thought I would be stuck at home because of a pandemic that has broken out and killed many people across the globe. My hours at work have been cut, my face-to-face courses have been changed to online courses, and my apartment complex is under new management so now I have to go through someone else to get my bill solved, but that is a different story.

My name is Trinity Corker, and I am from a small town by the name of Gretna, 25 miles west of Tallahassee. I first enrolled at TCC in 2017. I honestly was supposed to graduate in December 2019, but I got caught up in the college lifestyle for a little while BUT now I am down to my last TWO CLASSES.

Anyhow, how is the coronavirus affecting your life? It has affected mine in both good and bad ways. Even though I can barely hang out with friends, go out for a nice evening to eat at Golden Corral with my boyfriend, or go to the mall just because I am bored on a Saturday, it does not mean life is over right?

I have picked up a lot of hours at work now since my classes are now online. Also, I have had more time to work out. I really want a nice summer body, and this personal time being at home has been good for me.

A lot of my friends have been laid off and gone home. Thankfully, I am still working and trying to maintain. Because I work at Advance Auto Parts, I must work through this pandemic because my job is considered “essential,” meaning it is important because we sell car parts and the store must stay open.

The ambulance must get to the sick and injured some type of way, and people in general always need and want moving vehicles. Plus, you never know when something may happen, and transportation is extremely important.

Coming home and being able to finish my homework and other tasks around the house has been OK and peaceful, but I am beyond ready to be back outside.

Until then, work and online courses for me. Hooray, right?
