Music is important to Kermit Harrison in a nontraditional way. Harrison is a Tallahassee Community College professor of Humanities who was born in Tampa, Fla. His music preference has changed a lot from high school, when he listened to Hip Hop, and graduate school, where he preferred jazz. He enjoys making upbeat mixes for his kickboxing classes, and creates relaxing eastern inspired mixes for his yoga studio.

He has played the Djembe in TCC’s African Drum and Dance Ensemble for 15 years, and rediscovered his love of the guitar as an adult. He plays it daily. Harrison’s interest in music is certainly eclectic.

“I expanded pretty quickly into appreciating a lot of different genres just because of appreciating musicianship,” Harrison said.

He has recently been interested in live music, specifically guitar.

“I appreciate going to live music and watching people who are authentically expressing themselves through, you know, the medium of an instrument.”
